Write a thorough job description
You need to be clear on what you require from your nanny. All your preferences, requirements and needs should be listed out in a clear and concise manner. This way the nannies who can fill out this role will reach out to you and half your filtering process gets completed then and there.
For example, some of the requirements could include any educational qualification, years of experience, availability in terms of hours, etc.
Check their references
You are essentially leaving your children’s responsibility and care to a stranger at the end of the day. You need to comb through your nanny’s references to make sure they are a credible candidate to avoid any mishaps from occurring.
Do a background check
After you are done verifying their references, parents should also invest some time in doing a thorough background check on their potential nanny. No precautionary measure is too cautious for your precious child.
Always do a trial run
Before you hire the nanny, you should ideally do a supervised and unsupervised trial run with your nanny. Check in with your kids and make sure they are comfortable around them. This will make your life a whole lot easier in the future because you will avoid the unnecessary hassle of firing and hunting for new nannies periodically.
Establish rules
When your nanny comes to your household, you need to set down basic ground rules. Remember, they are not babysitters, they need to be held accountable for their actions.
It is your job as a parent to make sure your kids are taken care of, so you should set down house rules and other rules and requirements that your children need to follow. The nanny will find it a lot easier to work around your requirements instead of having to figure out everything on their own as well.
